Ayiee!! Supernatural S3 is out on DVD! *flails*

If nothing else, this means I can start clearing episodes off the DVR. Which hey – with S4 starting on the 18th, huge plus!

In other news, I have to believe that when your manager calls apologizing for potentially calling too early – it’s a good thing when you can tell him you’re already on site. Even if it means he’s out of luck for you doing the favor he needs. *g*

Memo to Firefox: You know, if you read porn on the Interwebs, your new feature where you go into more specific detail about websites on your pull-down menu pretty much bites. Hard. And not in the good way either.

Still got lots to record about Dragoncon…it was a hell of a weekend. As I commented many times on Monday, the convention pretty much wined me, dined me, bought me pretty things, and then dragged me out back, beat me up and took my wallet.

Am I going back for a rematch next year? Hell yeah! If this is a convention I have to train for, so be it.

Probably the main reason I opted not to work for Offworld this year, is that Dragoncon has the largest percentage of awesome people where even though I may only see them once a year I will do anything to make the most of that time. [livejournal.com profile] bard_wench, [livejournal.com profile] marcgunn, [livejournal.com profile] andrewmckee, [livejournal.com profile] elfgirl and [livejournal.com profile] dwivian, all the guys in Emerald Rose, the crew from The Devil’s Panties, and probably many more I’m forgetting.

This year, not having to horde my energy for work, I was able to branch out some socially. [livejournal.com profile] laughingimp and I went to dinner with The Colonial Fleet on Thursday night. We considered doing other things with them over the course of the weekend, but D*Con being as close a thing as we have to an official anniversary and being chock full of other people to see and other events to take in it really never panned out.

Given how much of the cast ended up partying with the Fleet on Saturday night, I’m sure [livejournal.com profile] happygoth would go with me next year if Imp stays uninterested. *g*

Friday night was pretty much an ADD night. Dinner with [livejournal.com profile] bard_wench, the Buffy Horror Picture Show, and then I’m pretty sure there was a Bards concert somewhere in there? Half an hour of the NC-17 fanfic panel, where I discovered that [livejournal.com profile] thenyxie is apparently famous – and well regarded as one of *the* best NC-17 fic writers out there. \o/

Imp and I had planned to meet up at the Abney Park concert, but in a move straight out of a 1940’s classic film, he ended up waiting for me outside the fic panel while I went to the concert. *facepalm* I loved Abney Park very much though – Steampunk themed band, and so not my usual stuff. I danced like a maniac though, and felt much better for the going and the doing of it.

Okay, there had to have been a Bards concert on Friday night, because we met up with [livejournal.com profile] marcgunn for lunch on Saturday. Dinner Saturday night at Hooters with [livejournal.com profile] happygoth, Hatman and crew, where we endured some noise and football craziness, but mostly mocked and socialized.

I *did* get one of my best self-esteem polishing moments of the convention at Hooters, though. Imp and I ordered beer, and when the server checked my ID, she did this priceless double take with an honestly shocked “No way!” ( Side note: my hair is currently its traditional “Dragoncon Brown”, and wow did Miss Clairol not lie when they trumpeted “improved gray control” on the packaging.)

Another Bards concert after dinner, then pretty much a dead run to the burlesque show. Yes, a genuine, historically faithful burlesque show. It was *awesome*, both from an entertainment junkie standard *and* from a general pervy standpoint.

What *wasn’t* awesome was that this was the one line we ended up truly committing to all weekend. Outside on concrete in new, unbroken boots and on an incline. Me and my restless leg syndrome were well and truly fercrappled by the time we got in and seated. And my meds were back in the hotel room. I don’t typically carry them because they’re mildly narcotic – we’ve since revised this position because HOMG.

Sunday morning I got to have breakfast with the amazingly awesome [livejournal.com profile] rachelcaine and her incredible husband. Two hours of incredibly satisfying conversation later, I was off to get books autographed by none other than Katherine Kurtz.

[livejournal.com profile] lawperry and [livejournal.com profile] wendyzski will probably best appreciate the picture she let me take. *g* For those of you not in the know, the teddy bear in that picture is mine. I’ve had him since shortly after I discovered Kurtz’ “Chronicles of the Deryni” and his name is Duncan.

Sunday night was marked by our now-traditional quest for sushi and karaoke. Scored on one, crapped out on the other. Did have a fantastic time though (for those fans of The Devil’s Panties, we had dinner with Happy Goth/Devil Girl, Angel Girl, the Dragoncon Goddess, and assorted other extremely cool individuals.)

And I probably got a little too up close and personal with the sake’…

Sunday night was the Pirate Party. And while I enjoyed the heck out of being able to dress for a change, and work the “cleavage…that’s a new look for you” angle, the party didn’t really have that magickal spark that made last year’s such an incredible experience. Part of it was the increase in size and proportional increase in “stupid drunks”. Part of it was definitely not being able to dance comfortably in my shiny new bodice. And then there was the earlier familiarity with the sake’ coming back to beat me upside the head.

Mostly though, it was the people that ended up opting for other activities. It’s always the people that make or break D*Con.

Still, we got to hang with [livejournal.com profile] elfgirl and [livejournal.com profile] dwivian a bit, my backside got some appreciation from Captain Barbosa during the Bodice parade, and Captain Jack Murphy proved to be quite an interesting rogue… ;-) Not a wasted evening by any stretch of the imagination – but still somewhat of a letdown from last year.

Monday. Monday was hangover, holy crap what am I sixteen and brain damaged? day. Got packed, saw Imp off, said goodbyes all around, and ended up at one of the most incredible Emerald Rose concerts *ever*.

Which I will describe in my more music-centric entry.

Long Dragoncon recap is looooooooong.

Wow, being a civilian at these things sure changes your perspective, dunnit? I'm so glad you got the chance to finally go "off duty" and enjoy the chaos for a change. :)

(Oh, and excuse me for a sec: KATHERINE KURTZ! KATHERINE KURTZ!)

There. And BTW, Is that my shabby 'ol ex-copy of Lammas Night sitting there on the desk? Cool.

Hee!

Actually it's my own well-loved volume. She and her husband were quite pleased to see it, and I got to tell how profoundly it impacted my college years.

I'm so glad you got the chance to finally go "off duty" and enjoy the chaos for a change. :)

While it would have been nice for the original plans to have panned out (but hey - sold five Blink shirts just walking through the Marriott!), I have to admit that in retrospect I completely agree.

*waves to Duncan*

It's so sad that Dragoncon falls during my prime Faire season - we're in mid-MiRF right now. Several people on my Flist linked to pics of a woman who did a Weeping Angel (from Blink) costume that was a stunner! If I'd walked around the corner and seen that I'd have screamed.

OMG - I *wish* I'd seen that costume! Sadly I'm not sure it would have registered even if I had - there are so many people in those venues.

One of these days I hope you guys can come - the Celtic/Renassiance bands are becoming more numerous and always get a great reception.

Hubby and I keep talking about one day we will be too damn old to vend and then we can go back to partying at Dragoncon. But I think if we stopped vending anytime soon I think there would be lots of upset peeps at us. Had banner sales, so busy that I was too tired to stay up for any of the concerts. Only went to one private party on Friday and walked around a bit on Sunday. Saturday I was just too damn tired.

Yay!

Hopefully things will work out for an Exhibit Hall booth next year - I have to admit that I do miss the structure of vending. And if it were confined to the actual sales hours, instead of the extra time spent selling the convention shirt, I don't think it would impact my fun time too much.

Congrats on a successful time, though!

OOOOOH! Hi Duncan-bear!!!

And I am officially SO VERY JEALOUS that you have met and lurved on Katherine Kurtz. Breathed the same damn air. Gotten your books signed.

Which books, btw? The super duper mega bucks collector's edition??

Hee!

I had her autograph Lammas Night and King Kelson's Bride. I already had an autograph on Quest for St. Camber back from that Confusion we went to in 1987.

No, I didn't take her the collector's edition - not only didn't I want to risk transporting it, it's already signed and numbered.
