So this was my fifth Comicon. And in all that time, the closest I've gotten to the numerous celebrities that go to the convention center is the one year I saw Seth Green walking by the table.
You'd think that this year, being posted to our satellite booth in the Dealer's Room equivalent of Eastern Siberia, my odds of spotting somebody famous would be even worse.
Heh -- you'd *so* be wrong.
To set the scene: Friday morning. My associate salesperson and I are restocking the booth prior to the hall opening. H is plugging in the lights and I'm working on the stacks when I see people approaching the table out of the corner of my eye. Not unusual -- pre-open is really the only time a lot of the smaller dealers (myself included) have a chance to shop.
So I look up.
*slow blink*
Samuel L. Jackson is standing at my table, looking at our shirts.
Samuel L. Jackson.
For those of you who read about my close encounter with Jewel Staite at last year's Dragoncon -- you'll probably be amazed to know that I shifted immediately into cool, calm, professional mode. We chatted about the t-shirts (he didn't buy any, but acted like he was interested), he complimented our setup and moved on.
H, who is twelve, had gotten to her feet while we were talking, but to her credit stayed quiet and didn't try to fangirl her way into the conversation.
The two of us stayed *really* quiet until he was about four booths away.
*Then* we lost our shit. Completely quietly, but *very* obviously.
Samuel freakin' Jackson. Oh. My. God. I'm getting fangirly again just thinking about it.

3. There's a little bit of difference between a fantasy author and an A-list Hollywood actor...I would point out that nobody had to explain to you who Samuel L. Jackson was. *g*
