First order of business:
( Angel Stuff... )
I am proud of myself today. I combatted OCD tendencies with a healthy dose of realism and practicality.
"Seduced by Moonlight" was released yesterday. One of my most favoritest authors writing in my most favorite of her universes.
Hardback.
Serious monetary indulgence in today's real world.
Plan "A" was for me to camp out at Barnes and Noble for a few hours -- long enough to inhale the story, which would hold me over until I could afford a copy of my very own.
Plan "B" was to whine A LOT.
Both of these plans feed into my OCD tendencies, unfortunately. They nurture the out of control "MUST HAVE" feelings that take charge of my brain and spiral my actions out of control.
So today while Robin was at Northward I stopped in at the Library.
Asked them when they expected to get a copy of Seduced by Moonlight.
Asked them to call me when it comes in and hold me a copy.
I should be able to enjoy the exploits of Princess Meredith and her guards in the next day or so. :)
Hey -- it's the little steps that matter. This is an honest to Goddess instant of personal growth here!
School is going well, although I'm a bit flabbergasted at what is considered appropriate for fifth grade history.
We got two full chapters of the American Revolution. Two full chapters of the Civil War.
World War II shared a chapter with the Roaring Twenties and the Great Depression.
The Vietnam War shared a chapter with Johnson's Great Society, Nixon's resignation and the early years of the Cold War.
The Korean War got two paragraphs.
No mention of Kennedy's assassination anywhere.
In an interesting bit of crossover work, Robin is working on an essay comparing and contrasting speeches by MLK, Jr. and Malcom X. Based on the admittedly limited sample, she already has more faith in Malcom X's methods than MLK, Jr.'s.
Quote: "Malcom X's speeches were more blunt, but got the point across faster. His speeches portrayed the world more realistically."
Something tells me I should be worried about the inherent cynicism of that statement...
We're on a new schedule with Choi Kwang Do. Like most things it has its ups and downs. Downs are that we've lost our carpool with
crevette for the next several months (they've redivided the classes along belt rank). The time has also changed, which necessitated us moving her class days to Monday and Wednesday.
The upside is that the class size has radically shrunk. Six kids on Monday, three today. And, being high belts, they get the best instructors. Robin isn't getting away with *anything* on the mat.
Not that she would intentionally, mind you -- but as her motivation to advance has taken another spike, good results occur when she can get non-distracted help.
Revisions on So-Mo are proceeding nicely. I always feel so much better when I'm writing. The musical tie-in with this novel also cracks me up. I hauled out the Natalie Imbruglia CD, and it was like I never left Dari's head. *g*
ABC Night tomorrow night! First one in two weeks! To say I can't wait would be beyond an understatement!
Oh -- grabbed something else interesting when I was at the library today. Comments on my previous entry encouraged me to look for a copy of the complete "Schoolhouse Rock" DVD. They didn't have it at the branch I stopped at, but they *DID* have a copy of "Money Rock".
For those not in the know, this was produced some time after the original run of Schoolhouse Rock shorts. And it deals with financial matters -- the stock market, the national debt, savings, and one segment that I wish that I *had* seen growing up -- the mechanics of checking accounts! I can't wait to watch it!
You know how you ramble on and on, and then suddenly your entire brain freezes and you have no idea how to proceed or even what you were saying? I tend to refer to them as "conversational face plants".
Just me then?
Huh.
Okay.
