What. A. Week.

Felt tired and rundown pretty much since Tuesday. I'm firmly in the parental trap of being able to force a proper bedtime on my teenager, but not capable of adhering to one myself. Fixing this will ultimately suck, but it has to be done. I've frequently toyed with the idea of just going back to bed after taking Robin to the bus stop, but that will screw the rest of the day -- and if I get into *that* habit, I might as well start in on the bonbons for real and have done with my life.

Not to mention the paternal responsibilities that haven't gone away or diminished in the slightest. He's actually been doing much better this week (aside from one incident of unplugging last night). I told Mom I think it's because he's the center of the universe again. I've been taking him with me on some errands, and spending more time hanging out in the living room with him -- largely because I feel kind of shitty bailing on him for long stretches of time when I don't have Robin around as my higher priority.

Oh, I still get stuff done...it's just, different.

It was really cool getting a call from [livejournal.com profile] harmonyfb yesterday inviting me to meet her and Peri for coffee and realizing, "hey -- I can *do* that!".

Changes, changes, changes.

High school still tends to be by and large a positive experience. Robin came home today declaring that half her algebra class hates her guts, but I suspect upon further reflection that at least some of that is adolescent hyperbole. She's not being nasty or provocative -- she just asks a LOT of questions in class.

In Drama, that's actually helping her grade. "Active Participation", they call it.

Her Economics teacher gave the class the final exam today as a practice run to see how much knowledge the kids have going into the class.

Robin was not only in the tiny group of students that passed -- she got the highest grade in the class! 77 -- as she said, "a C never looked so cool!".

Her Business Systems and Technologies teacher declared that she had "exemplary" typing skills. Her speed is 60 wpm.

She's one of only four girls in weight training, but from what she's told me hasn't let the boys intimidate her in the slightest. And yes, they've tried.

Overall, she seems to be handling the new environment *very* well. She's made a friend, and is slowly being accepted by *his* friends. She's handling the bumps and obstacles of daily life better than I think I expected her to. She's even calmed down about the bus, now that the driver's actually getting them to school on time!

Only seventeen kids on her bus, and a little over an hour for the trip. She *really* had nothing to complain about -- she just needed a couple of trips to realize just *how* little.

Guh -- I can't believe she's going to be fourteen years old tomorrow. (up in Kentucky, [livejournal.com profile] grindar has his hands over his eyes right now, and is babbling something to the effect of "lalalalalalala -- can't see what you wrote, so it isn't true!")

She's already gotten her big present from me. [livejournal.com profile] grindar and [livejournal.com profile] razzle had gotten her a new laptop, so I decided I'd try and swing a new television. I wanted to get her a combination setup, mostly to minimize space.

Went to every place I could think of to comparison shop, and ended up finding something only a little above my price range.

Wow. Comparison shopping ending in a realistic purchase. Oh how the times have changed.

At any rate, got it home, got it hooked up. She seems very pleased (and was *obviously* surprised). Now assuming all her peripherals work, I will pat myself on the back for a job well done.

Suddenly so very tired again. There's no law against going to bed at 9:30 on a Friday night, is there?
